Weekend Wrap-Up

Holy smokes did I have a fun weekend.
I'm hoping everyone else can say the same.
Cause fun weekends are the shiz.

It started on Friday with my Husband's birthday.
If you didn't read his birthday post, find it here.
Nate's birthday is June 21st, both the "official" first day of summer, and the longest day of the year.
Nate gets to celebrate his birthday longer than anyone else, ever.
What a lucky duck.

We celebrated by hitting up Dave and Busters on Friday night with some friends and family.

We ate, drank, played games, and wasted all of our tokens on that stupid coin pusher machine.

It's whatevs though, cause since it was Nate's birthday, everyone gave us all their tickets.

Score.

Little Miley even came to wish Uncle Nay-Nay a Happy Birthday
She didn't say happy birthday necessarily, but it was implied when she smiled at him.
You know how it goes.

We love the Lindholm's!

Birthday boy.

Saturday we hung out at this place called Camp King: Swimming School for Dogs.
Also known as my parents house.

In line for swimming lessons:
Henry the Goldendoodle, with mom Charlene.
and Joey the black lab, with mom Sarah.

If you do the math on that one, Henry and Joey plus Maycee and Gunther...that's four dogs in one pool.
Whoa.

We'd been trying to get Henry and Joey over to swim for a few months now, but no one's plans were aligning...until this weekend.
And boy was it fun.

Joey didn't want to go in at first, but after a good shove, he was a natural and swam all around, even with no ball to retrieve.
The dude's a lab, I suppose we should've expected that.

Henry, on the other hand needed a little more coaxing.

...he wasn't havin' it.
Although, I will say, the actual act of swimming, he did really well at.
He swam the length of the pool to and from Charlene and her bf, Colin.
He just wouldn't go in on his own.
And whenever he did go in, his eyes were so big, it looked as if they were about to come out of his head.

In time Henry, in time.
You'll be a swimmin' machine.

It was definitely a stellar afternoon.
...Gunther, holdin' it down for the white boys all day.

Before swim lessons at Camp King, I got a pleasant surprise from my bloggy and real life friend Tyah, from Humble Haro Abode, saying she spontaneously decided to drive into Phoenix for the weekend and that we needed to get together.
Tyah lives about an hour and a half south of me so I don't get to see her that often.
So naturally, when she said she was in town I was like, "Umm, chyaa!

So we enjoyed chips and salsa and guacamole and margaritas while the sun went down Saturday night.
Yes, margaritas is plural.
Ain't no shame in our game.

Sunday we ended up back at Camp King: Swimming School for dogs, for some BBQ
and of course, swimming.
After two days in a row of herds of dogs in their pool, I looked at my mom lovingly and said, "Aren't you glad you guys are the one with the pool?!"

She laughed.

I wouldn't dare ask my dad that question.
I think I already know his answer.
And he'd for sure give me the stink-eye.

My sister made the mistake of taunting Gunny with her kick-board thing.
He decided he wanted it, and wouldn't leave her alone until he got it.
Mission accomplished.

And that was my amazeballs weekend.

Aaaand there's nothing like a Monday morning on the horizon to spoil your weekend fun.
So lame.
Ah, well, so is life.

Happy Monday folks!

Happy Birthday to This Dude

Today is my husband's birthday.

So in honor of his birthday, I thought I'd share with you some of the funny things my husband says.
Cause Nate's pretty funny.
And because, in the same way parents document the funny things their kids say, sometimes wives document the funny things their husbands say.
Or maybe that's just me, I don't really know.

On vegetable lasagna - "This is America. Where's the meat?"

On the Stanley Cup Finals - "I'll root for Boston...cause Chicago has stupid gun laws."

On Olympic gymnastics - "What's with all the arm flailing? It's very distracting."

On toilet paper while camping - "Mountain money"

On Harry Potter - "For being the 'Chosen One,' Hermomonee sure is saving his @$$ all the time"

On making sure the doors are locked before bed - "I don't really care. It's for their safety, not mine."

On the Arizona heat - "It's hotter than a two-peckered billy goat"

On when I don't know the answer to something - "Who's the one with all the college degrees?"

On Gunther misbehaving - "What is your major malfunction priiiiiivate?!"

...and probably a bunch of other stuff I can't remember.

Happy birthday man.

Happy Monday

You wanna know something funny?
I couldn't decide if I felt like blogging tonight, and just as I had made up my mind like, "yeah, I'm gonna get bloggy tonight," I accidently stepped on the really pointy heel of one of my shoes and it freakin hurt so bad that I was like, "this is stupid. I don't wanna blog tonight. Cause now I'm pissed. And in pain."

...But then my adult self told my 5 year old self to quit pouting and being a brat just cause you
got a boo-boo on your foot.

So alas, here I am. Blogging after all.

There's an intro if I ever heard one.

So, happy Monday everyone? I realize the general consensus is usually that Monday's are not really happy. But today was totally happy for me...besides the boo-boo on my foot
we already went over. And that didn't even happen 'til right now, so really it had no effect
on my Monday.
But I digress.

This Monday was happy for me because it was my first official day on the state payroll.
That's right.
My first big-girl job is officially official!
...and if you follow me on Instagram (ahem, MissRiss0409) you know this by the fact that I totally have my own name plate outside my cube now:
For those of you that don't know, I've been interning for the State for about the last year - meaning technically I've been employed by a temp agency. So last week the state positions finally opened up...and I got the job!

So I'm pretty pumped I won't be one of those statistics that either:
A.) Is a college grad that can't find a job
or
B.) Is an adult that never actually works in the field they went to school for.

...And plus, now that my big-girl job is finally secured, hopefully Nate won't be as mad when it comes time to pay those student loans.

So since my offer letter was a great way to start the weekend, I told Nate a celebratory dinner was in order...and I got to choose the menu.
So we had:
And:
Shrimp and mac n' cheese.
Oh and wine. You can't really celebrate something without wine.
What can I say...I'm not hard to please.

The rest of the weekend consisted of:
Archery range,

Pooches,

And we had an early bday celebration for my mom, whose birthday is this week. And it looked a little like this:
...So you know, the usual.

Mom got a popcorn maker.
Like, a legit, movie theatre machine popcorn maker.
Movie nights at her house from now on.

Nate and I also did yard work...but I didn't take pictures of that, nor do you want to see pictures of that, cause I promise you...it wasn't pretty.
It's not all the way done yet, but at least the yard is now livable again.
Thank the Lord.

I realize I haven't finished posting about our New Mexico anniversary trip.
I'll get there.
Have you ever taken a whole-freakin-bunch of pictures of the same thing, so each one is basically the same, but some of the quality might be slightly better in some than in others, so it takes a really long time to sort through them and figure out which ones you're gonna use on your blog?
That's where I'm at right now.
George Strait practically filled my memory card and I've been too lazy to sort through all of them.
...no offense George.

Maybe later this week? Meet you back here?
Same time, same place.

Cowboys, Birthdays, Mnemonic Devices, and Other Fun Things

Sooooo...it's been a little while hasn't it?

Mah bad.

I could go on and tell you all about how awesome I am at managing my time (which is clearly why my last blog post was over a week ago)...but you've totally heard that before.
So let's talk about what's been goin' on shall we?!

Last weekend was Cowboy Weekend 2013.
Read about Cowboy Weekend 2012 here.
What do you do during cowboy weekend?
Shoot things.
(Using your choice of: BB gun, real gun, bow and arrow, or slingshot)

Throw things (e.g. knives)

Ride quads.

Hunt for coyotes.

See how many dogs and humans can fit in the front cab of your truck
It's kinda like "Chubby Bunny," but instead of seeing how many marshmallows can fit in your mouth, you see how many dogs can fit in your truck.
I feel like maybe that's a weird example, but you know what I mean...
Maybe next year we'll try for "how many dogs and humans can fit on a quad"
Ooo that'd be good.

In other news, my birthday was last week. My golden birthday, might I add.
I turned 26 on the 26th
...and I already feel older.
I was filling out a survey today at work when it asked me my age; the first bracket was 18-25 and the second bracket was 26-34.
That puts me in the second bracket!! Next to the 30s!!
Holy crap on a cracker.

Speaking of work, when I came back after my day off my coworkers decorated my cube for my birthday:
Totally kept it up all week.
Totally ate the left over ice cream cake all week too.

Ooh, another piece of good news includes the fact that I'm down to my very. last. class. ever. in my Master's program.
One of my classes this semester was a condensed 8 week course and ended  at the end of February. Which means one class down, one to go, and then I'll be homework free for the rest. of. my. life.
That has a good ring to it doesn't it?

Lastly, I was pretty proud of myself after I finally figured out how to tell apart the Morris twins that now play together in Phoenix after Marcus Morris was traded from Houston...
...so I texted my dad:
...only to find out today that MarkEEf spells his name MarkIEff.

Damn.

I almost had it.

Whatever, his Twitter handle is 'Keef Morris' so I'm just gonna stick with my original idea.

And that's what's been goin' on.
And since I can't think of a clever way to end this post I'm just gonna go with:

Later.
