Happy Birthday to This Dude

Today is my husband's birthday.

So in honor of his birthday, I thought I'd share with you some of the funny things my husband says.
Cause Nate's pretty funny.
And because, in the same way parents document the funny things their kids say, sometimes wives document the funny things their husbands say.
Or maybe that's just me, I don't really know.

On vegetable lasagna - "This is America. Where's the meat?"

On the Stanley Cup Finals - "I'll root for Boston...cause Chicago has stupid gun laws."

On Olympic gymnastics - "What's with all the arm flailing? It's very distracting."

On toilet paper while camping - "Mountain money"

On Harry Potter - "For being the 'Chosen One,' Hermomonee sure is saving his @$$ all the time"

On making sure the doors are locked before bed - "I don't really care. It's for their safety, not mine."

On the Arizona heat - "It's hotter than a two-peckered billy goat"

On when I don't know the answer to something - "Who's the one with all the college degrees?"

On Gunther misbehaving - "What is your major malfunction priiiiiivate?!"

...and probably a bunch of other stuff I can't remember.

Happy birthday man.

I Got This Feelin' on a Summer Day When You Were Gone...

Here's the thing:
I hate house music.
Or techno music.
Or whatever you call it.
I always have, and always will, say heck no to techno.

BUT...

I looooove this song by Icona Pop.
Seriously, so fun.

It came on at the Taylor Swift concert while we were waiting for her to come on stage, and I had never heard it before.
When I got home, I downloaded it on itunes and it's been on repeat ever since.

Yes, it has a few words that I would owe a quarter for if I were still a kid.
Yes, it says the same thing over and over again and they're not even really singing.
But guess what?
I don't care...I love it.
Girlfriend crashed her car into a bridge and watched and let it burn.
She doesn't care.
She loves it.

So it inspired me to brainstorm my own list of sorts (cause I like lists like that)...

Google chat while at work - I don't care...I love it

I look like a donkey when I Zumba - I don't care...I love it

My husband hates it when I watch baseball. He thinks it's boring - I don't care...I love it

I hog the sheets and sleep in the middle-ish of the bed - I don't care...I love it

I correct people's grammar - I don't care...I love it

My bed gets all furry when I let Gunther up to snuggle - I don't care...I love it

I'm 26 and I still laugh at fart jokes - I don't care...I love it

More than one Instagram in one day - I don't care...I love it

They say typing in all caps makes it seem like you're shouting - I DON'T CARE...I LOVE IT

...and so on and so forth.

Side-note, I wonder if her real name is Icona Pop?
...Either way, I don't really care.
I love it.

Life Lately - Besides the Awesome Camping Trip Last Weekend

This last weekend my family and I went camping and it was pretty much amazeballs.
But I'm not gonna blog about it today.
Cause I haven't gone through all my pictures, nor have I gotten any of the pictures my dad took with his fancy camera.
I always want to make sure to get my dad's pictures before I blog something,
cause his are usually the shiz.
Cause he's fancy like that.

I think sometimes he gets annoyed with me though, cause every time after my family does something fun, the next day I'm like, "Did you finish editing your pictures yet?" "Did you go through your pictures yet?" "Are you gonna be home tonight so I can come over and get your pictures?" "I need your pictures before I can blog."
He's sort of been sucked into the blog life without actually knowing it.
It's what I like to call second-hand smoke blogging.
My blogging is suddenly his problem cause I need his pictures.
Don't tell him that though.

So anyway,

I think when most bloggers post a bunch of pictures to catch you up on what's been going on, they call it an iphone dump.
I'm gonna opt out of the "iphone dump"terminology cause the word "dump" reminds me of, well, you know...bathroom business.

So instead, I'll go with:
Here's some pictures of stuff that's been going on lately 'round these here parts.

My parents got me a fancy leather padfolio for graduation, to use at work.
You know, cause I'm a big girl now with a big girl job and a Master's degree.
And it finally came in the mail and I'm in loooove with it.
It has my initials on it and everything.
I carry it around the office with me even when I don't have meetings to go to.
Cause it makes me feel happy like that.

Speaking of work, one of my good friends Sarahita started last week and I'm pretty dang happy about that too.
Sarahita was my first friend I made in grad school, and 2 years later we're now coworkers!
Now we get to work together, and write reports, and make Power Point presentations, except this time we get to get paid for it.
Oh yeah.

My sister-in-law had a birthday last week.
Happy birthday Jessica!

And her little one, my niece, Miley, is as cute as ever in her Cardinals gear we got
for her last Christmas.
Seriously, so cute right?!
When we were at my in-laws' house last week to celebrate Jessica's birthday, Miley did a number in her diaper when Grandpa was holding her.
He totally tried to pawn her off on me, and I was like, "Nuh uh! I'm not ready for diaper changing yet!"
A for effort, though, Carl.

I came across this on Twitter and literally lol'd. I know sometimes people say that they literally laughed out loud, but really they didn't, they're just being dramatic...but I'm telling you, this literally made me laugh out loud.
Believe me.
Hopefully you laughed too or else you might be like, "geez Carissa, it really wasn't that funny." In which case I might feel kind of dumb.
And hopefully you know the song by P!nk, or else you definitely won't think it's as funny.

My good friend Faith, whom I've known since the 7th grade, was in town last week and we got together for a dinner date.
Faith and I used to ride our bikes to school together and I would tell her all about how I thought this kid named Nathan was really really cute, but would never dare to talk to him.
Now, we're in our mid-twenties, she lives across the country with two kids, we have husbands in the military, and we talk about how cute our dogs are.
Things change don't they?
Things change, but Faith doesn't. She's still as hysterical as ever.
Love you woman!

So you know, hopefully I'll have a camping post to share with you soon.
Depending on when I get the picture issue sorted out.
Is it just me or is half the battle of composing a blog post, figuring out what pictures to use?
I hate sorting through pictures and figuring out which to use and where to put them.
Maybe it's because I take too many.
Maybe I should take less pictures?

...Nah.

That's crazy talk.

A Note From the Dogs

Today is Father's Day.
Since my family and I were out gettin' our camp on this weekend, I don't have a fancy Father's Day post at the ready.
But check out my last Father's Day post HERE, cause I love my dad and he's pretty freakin' awesome and I feel like you should read about how awesome he is.

Also, the dogs were begging me all weekend to write a post about their dad, i.e. Nate, for Father's Day.
They were like, "c'mon Mom! Please let us write on your blog!"
And I was like, "I mean I guess, but you guys don't have thumbs, so it might make typing
kind of hard."
They didn't care to heed my advice, so without further ado, I give you...
Maycee and Gunther.
Hi.
Maycee and Gunther here.
Mom said you people probably already know who we are, cause she said she talks about us a lot.

How embarrassing.

Not surprising though, Mom is a little clingy.

Nate is our Dad and we love him a lot, and we wanted to tell you all about him.
Although, Mom might've already done that too.
So clingy.

We love Dad because he takes good care of us, and always feeds us the best kibbles ever.
They just never get old and we get to eat them all the time.
Although, if ever we get a taste for something different on our buds, Dad usually shuts us down when we beg for it.
He makes us go lie down on our bed, as if we're some kind of animal or something.
Rude.

Dad is the best human to play tug-of-war with.
He's really strong, and even though he always beats me, Maycee, I live for the moment when he lets me think I'm winning.
In the end though, he always reminds me who's in charge.

I, Gunther, personally am not one for tug-of-war, but I do love when Dad holds Maycee back so I can actually go fetch the ball he throws for me.
That Maycee, she can really be a batch sometimes.
My Dad even taught me how to shoot a BB gun and ride a quad.
And best of all, he always talks Mom out of wanting to chop off my goods, IF you know what I mean.
There's no better dad than the kind that let you keep your man-hood.
Thanks Dad.

Dad takes me, Maycee, bird hunting and let's me fetch all the birds when he shoots 'em out of the sky.
Gunther's too stupid to fetch birds out of the sky.

Even though Dad can be a hard @$$ sometimes (don't tell mom we cursed) we know he's a softy deep down. At least that's what we're guessing.
We're dogs. We don't really know for sure.
When Dad's not talking to us like he's our drill sergeant and we're his privates,
he's a really fun Dad, we promise.
We just have to remind him occasionally that in fact, this isn't the military, and our paws don't bend the right way to salute even if we wanted to.

Happy Father's Day Dad!

And we're back.
There you have it.
The first blog appearance from the Townsend furbabies.
And for the record, I'm not clingy, Gunther's not stupid, his junk really does need to go, and Maycee can be a little bit of a batch sometimes.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Since I'm the human and I run this blog, I get the last word.

Children I tell ya, always bickering.

Happy Father's Day everyone!

A Really Fun Weekend

I love it when I have a good weekend.
This weekend was one of those weekends.

When I sat down to write this post, I told myself, "See how many times you can say the word 'weekend' in your opening sentences."

Just kidding.
I didn't say that.
But that was a lot of "weekends" in a just couple sentences, no?

Saturday the hubs and I were tasked with finding a cool new, super duper camp spot for our family camping trip next weekend.
It worked out nicely since my dad and almost brother-in-law were painting my parents' pool deck, which meant the pool was closed for business on Saturday.
So when it's 108 degrees and you can't swim in the pool, what do you do?

You leave.

And you drive a couple hours north where it's 20 degrees cooler and you find a cool new, super duper camp spot for your family camping trip next weekend.

So that's what we did.

After we did our due diligence and found a cool new, super duper camp spot - in addition to three alternative camp spots should camp spot #1 be taken next weekend...we took a fishing break.

Cause it just felt right.

And plus, I had a sweet new pink fishing pole that needed some breaking in.

We didn't catch anything.
It's whatevs though.
Cause as Randy Houser says, I was in a bit of a
"don't give a damn if they don't bite state of mind...I got sunshine on the line"

Bear Canyon Lake

We fished, and hung around, and Nate showed me some cool spots in the area, until the sun went down, and then we made our way back down to the valley.
And of course, hit up Sonic for 1/2 price milkshakes after 8pm.
Yesssss.

Sunday, to my surprise, my dad gave us the go-ahead to hit up the pool.
No dogs allowed though. ...their nails might've tore up the fresh new coat of paint on the deck.
If you ask me, that's pretty discriminatory.
Dogs are people too ok?

The afternoon pretty much looked like this:
For the boys, that is.

For my mom and I, it looked more like this:
Pool time is not complete without a Route 44 Diet Coke with regular cherry flavor and easy ice.
It's just not.

I definitely won't mention how we each had two in one afternoon, cause surely you'd judge us.
Especially considering I've already mentioned Sonic once in this post, you might think I have an unhealthy obsession with Sonic.
I don't, for the record.

Nate and my dad had a rousing game of HORSE going on.

Their shots started looking like this, and then it pretty much unraveled from there...
Believe it or not, they both actually made the dead-man-floating-upside-down-behind-the-back shot.
I know, I was impressed too.

We're in for a long, hot summer.
But if all my weekends go like this weekend, I'll be ok with that.

Name That Tune

I have this thing lately, where I like to sing songs to my friends using emojis.
I think it's really fun, and it makes me laugh.
And I'm always down for things that make me laugh.

So last week I decided to serenade my dear friend Mckenzie.
I was in no mood to work that day, and we were meeting up for happy hour that night. So instead of trying to be productive at the office, I just text messaged her all day long about nothing really important.

...I know, employee of the month right hurr.

And then I thought to myself, "Mckenzie needs a song."
So I sent her one.

And then she sent me the next line to the same song.
And I was like,
"Oh snap. She sings back."
Can you name these tunes? Think FGL

So after a little Florida Georgia Line (winner winner!), I decided to switch it up a bit.
And then my mind was officially blown.
She's good.
Can you name this tune? Think Blake Shelton

AND THEN my bff Charlene sent me this doozy last weekend.
Can you name this tune? Think Josh Gracin

I won't lie, I feel like I'm gonna need to step up my game with these ladies.

Gunther and Me: A Comparative Analysis

You wanna know what my husband said to me the other night?

We were getting ready for bed and he was standing at the doorway of our (semi) walk-in(ish) closet unloading his pockets. I needed to get past him to hang something up so I tried to sneak in behind him so he wouldn't have to move for me. But because I have awesome timing, I slid in behind him right at the moment he turned to exit the closet and we ran into each other.

He gave me a look of exasperation and goes, "You're like Gunther - you're always in the way."

Gunther.
The dog.

Let me back up a little bit.
One of Gunther's nicknames is Visa...cause he's everywhere you want to be.

Literally.

I suppose you can't blame him.
Gunny is a good dog and just wants to hang out with you and be wherever you are. Which also means, whenever you're trying to get somewhere (e.g. the living room, or the kitchen, or even simply trying to make it through the hallway) Gunther is always there.
Right at your feet.
You may even trip over him a time or two.
Or three.

So when Nate compares me to the dog, at first I wanted to be like,
"Umm, rude??"

In my defense, our house is small, so with two humans and two labs, it's kind of hard not to be on top of each other all the time.

But then I thought, you know, Nate might be on to something here.
Cause Gunther and me, we're alike in a lot of ways.

We both love to snuggle - both with Nate, and with each other

We both shed
...at least that's what Nate says.
Read it HERE
#lotsahairdontcare

We both get really excited when it's dinner time

We both love a good Celine Dion ballad

Often times we both sit next to Nate and wait for him to give us attention...

We both do yoga...together

We're both pretty good at wasting time when there's other things we know we should be doing.
...like cleaning the house, or Gunther picking up his own poop.
He really should learn how to do that.

We craft together

Sometimes we fight over the same real estate on the bed

And last but not least, per my husband...we're always in his way.
It's whatevs though.
How could you be mad at a face like this?

Or this?
Right??
