It's been a while since I've done my favorite weekly link-up, and since I've managed to run out of time for the last like, 5 Fridays, I made sure to make time for a post this week!

So without further ado, I give you...my high five for Friday.

1.) Last weekend I had a couple of my favorite ladies Sarahita and Stephanie over to my house for dinner. I cooked (I know, it probably won't happen again for another 6 months), we ate, we drank, we discussed the important issues of the day (i.e. why Halle Berry has man problems, Mariah Carey's biracial-ness, and my lack of gay-dar), we introduced Stephanie to Nutella (she liked it), and as always, we laughed.

2.) We decorated the office for Christmas this week

Considering all we had to go on was an 8 year old artificial tree, a hodge podge of old bulbs, and a handful of candy canes, I'd say we did pretty good.
The bow on top is my own personal touch...if I do say so myself.

3.) The dogs got their Christmas collars from grammy this week, so they're looking extra festive
Although, they're always looking festive, with cute faces like these.

4.) Thursday was the conclusion of one out of two classes remaining this semester.
Halle-freakin-lujah.
One research paper and power point presentation to go, and come Tuesday I can wash my hands of another semester of grad school.
And then the countdown to graduation begins!!

5.) And last but not least...I daresay I left the best for last.
Drum roll please...
The Duck Dynasty Christmas Special!!!
Hil-freakin-larious.
And there's really nothing else to say.
Besides I love Si.
And I really love him as an elf.

Happy Friday Jack!

High Five for Friday

Photobucket

Linking up with Lauren for my top five things from this week!

1.) New Scentsy's finally came in the mail
My house is beginning to smell like Fall!

2.) Sun Devil victory
ASU beat Colorado 51 to 17 to improve to a 5-1 record, 3-0 in the PAC 12.
Happy dance!!

3.) Halloween decorations!
Both in the office...

...and at home

...and unfortunately, I wish I could say this guy was a decoration
but he's not.
He's real.
And apparently he's staying, considering the husband bought him a cage...and a water dish...and a little cave to hang out in.
Awesome.
When I asked him why he brought home a tarantula he found out in the wild he answered, "cause it was crawling...so I grabbed it."
I can't argue with that I suppose.

4.) Check out this weather!
High's of 77 and 82 this weekend?! Bestill my heart!!

5.) What kind of a week would it be if my dogs weren't a highlight?!
Seriously, so cute right?!

Happy Friday!

H54F

It's that time again...time for my favorite day of the week AND my favorite Friday link-up!...that, ladies and gentlemen, is what I call a two-fer!

Photobucket

1.) Last weekend my mom and I made fleece blankets. The kind where you tie the sides together in knots and it looks all cool and fringe-y.
And by the time we were done...they looked pretty cool and fringe-y!
Don't let these bad boys fool you though, they take forever to finish. So worth it though!
...Now if only the cooler weather would come so I could actually use a blanket!

2.) My friend Quan, whom I work with, drew me this picture
Quan is from China so she teaches me about all things China and Asian culture. Like how Hong Kong is kinda sorta its own country in that it has its own military and own currency, but really it's owned by China and its elected leader has to be approved by the Chinese government. And that Japan just recently staked claim on some islands that are located in Chinese waters and now China and Japan are all mad at each other and protesting all over the place.
She gives me all the updates everyday at lunch.

And I found out that I was born in the year of the Rabbit.
So she drew me this picture.
And now it's hanging up in my cube.
And I'm a little in love with it.
Quan was born in the year of the Dragon, which at first, I was a little jealous of. Cause I'm like, dragons are way more fierce and cool and fire-breathing that rabbits are. But then I saw this picture and I'm like, bunnies are way cuter than fire-breathing dragons, so I think I'm ok with it now.
Thanks Quan.

3.) I got to have lunch with my dear friend Tanya who I used to work with at the pharmacy
Tanya was in downtown gettin' her pharmacy on at the State Board and since I work downtown, gettin' my public administration on, we set up a rendezvous for lunch.
Actually she totally thought of me and the fact that I work downtown, and it made me feel warm and fuzzy that she wanted to spend her lunch hour with me.
So we hit up this amazeballs mexican restaurant and ate the crap out of their delicious chips and salsa. At least I did.
I feel like Tanya should spend more time downtown at the Board of Pharmacy and we could have more lunch dates like this...
It's a win-win

4.) So there's this coffee shop a few blocks down the street from ASU Downtown that my dear friend Stephanie found out sells cookies.
Really good, big, gooey cookies.
So this week before class we made our way down to One Coffee Co. and bought ourselves a cookie.
And it was heavenly.
I was totally gonna take a picture of the cookie, but once cookies get in front of my face I tend to focus on putting it in my mouth and eating it more so than taking pictures of it. Plus, Stephanie and I are way better looking than a cookie right?!
We made it to the coffee shop early enough that we had time to hang out before we had to walk back to campus, so we sat on the couch in this adorable coffee shop, in downtown, ate our cookies, talked about the X Factor, and I felt all cool and hipster and cool and stuff.

Oh and side note, Stephanie had to leave half way through class to catch a flight back home and I was instructed to take notes for her for the remainder of the night, so here's what I sent her:
She can thank me later =)
Muahaha!

5.) Season 5 Big Bang Theory is out on DVD
Say no more.

Happy Friday!!

It's Friday!!

Question: is it weird that I almost didn't do this link up this week because when I tried to think of my "top five" things that happened this week...none were worth blogging about? Is it weird, then, that my life is so boring??

Also, question: is it weird that sometimes this link up confuses me a little? If we're to post on Friday, is it our top five things including things from only Monday? Wouldn't it be then, only our top five things from Monday through Thursday? Or do we include our last weekend's events? Even though technically they were last week?
Is it weird that I'm thinking about this so much?

Anyway, moving forward! My top five things from this week-ish (depending on how you look at it...)

1.) Sun Devil victory last Saturday!
Fear the Fork!

2.) Cooler weather
Do you see this?? It's under 100 degrees. And rainy. and Tuesday's high was 79.
Whoa.
Don't worry, we're back up past 100 next week...

3.) This picture
I know, I posted it yesterday.
Whatevs.
I like it.

4.) One of the talk show hosts I listen to in the mornings declared my congressional district one of the top 5 to watch Nationally
Is it weird that this makes me feel special? Yep, my congressional district race is pretty important...how 'bout yours? Is it weird that it makes me feel special because we're the newly created district after the redistricting in AZ this year? Yep, brand new district; we appeared as if from nowhere (either that or the redistricting committee) and everyone wants to represent us...there was like, a million people that ran in the primary.
And it makes me feel special.
Cause I care about politics more than I should.
Is it weird that Sinema was my teacher in my undergrad and I'm probably not gonna vote for her?
I hate to get all political on you, but ahem... Vernon Parker for Congress 2012!

5.) Casey James
I realize I'm a little late to this party but this gem came on my Pandora this week and I've been listening to him ever since!
Especially this song.
Cause I like his voice.
And his hair.
Which is weird cause I don't really like the long-hair-on-a-dude kind of a look, but it totally works for Casey

Have a fabulous weekend!

H54F

My general rule of thumb is to not have the same weekly link up back to back on my blog. Cause that usually means I haven't blogged in an entire week AND it looks I'm boring and can't think of anything else to write about.

Here's the thing though...this week totally kicked my @$$.
So really, it's not that I haven't thought of anything to blog about, but I just barely made it out of this week alive.

I wasn't even gonna do H54F this week cause it's been such a sucky week that I'm not in the mood to think about the good things.
BUT...then I was reading Amanda's blog over at My Love for Lyla; she had a tough week too and inspired me to focus on the good anyway...Thanks Amanda

So I'm gonna take a moment and remove my cranky pants and get on with it already...

1.) After TWO 15-20 page papers in one week...I am finally done with my first round of summer classes.
I'm pretty sure that last paper was quite possibly the worst I've ever written in my entire academic career. Then again, that class is one of the worst classes so far in my entire Grad program. BUT I already took off my cranky pants so I'm not gonna get into it...
2 classes down...2 to go
...pray for me folks!

2.) I, along with the other two interns at work moved into our very own cubicles!
I feel kinda silly cause I've been totally looking forward to my own cubicle. I've never had an office job before, so it makes me feel like a big girl to have my own workspace!...Totes can't wait to decorate it on Monday!
I thought about hanging a curtain across the entry way and anyone who wanted to come in had to say the secret password.
Unfortunately, I don't think my boss would be too jiggy with that.

3.) USA Women's Gymnastics Olympic Trials!
I was a gymnast for 10 years when I was younger. I had posters of Shannon Miller all over my room and wore out my VHS of the Magnificent 7. I totally rocked the velvet leotards and scrunchies.
I can't wait to see who makes this years Olympic team and I love being able to watch gymnastics on TV!

4.) Another week gone by means another week closer to Disneyland!!
5.) Aaron Hill hit for the cycle...again...within 11 days of the first time he did it
Zaaaang!

TGIF!!

High Five for Friday

Photobucket
It's Friday.
Thank the Good Lord!
I'm linking up with Lauren today for my top 5 things from this week!

1.) It was Husband's birthday on Thursday.
And I'm pretty sure I found the funniest card for him in our history of card giving. Even funnier than the one I got him with the three-hole puncher in the shape of a heart that says "I love you a hole punch."...although that one is definitely a classic.

I found this card with a picture of a guy holding up a fish and the front says
"When asked what his secret is to catching the big ones, Hank's reply is always the same - 'Good bait!'"
And then you open it and the inside says
"Happy Birthday to a real master baiter."

...BAZINGA!!

2.) Pontoon
I've been trying to perfect my summer play list for a little while now, and this song might just take the cake. I'm pretty sure it might just be THE song of the summer.

3.) This week I was awarded both the Liebster award by the lovely Amanda over at It's a Powell Life, and the Versatile Blogger award by the ever-so-charming Melissa over at Eleven Sixty
That's two blogger awards in one week.
A two-fer.
And I feel so special!
I will most certainly have to do the posts that go with them this weekend!
4.) Cookies for breakfast this morning.
Heck, it's Friday; cookies for breakfast on a Friday I feel like is totally appropriate.

5.) Cupcakes for lunch today.
Heck, it's Friday; cookies for breakfast and cupcakes for lunch on a Friday I feel like is totally appropriate =)
The two other interns at work had their birthdays this week also, so our boss bought cupcakes to celebrate. It was my first time eating Sprinkles cupcakes and I will say, they were pretty delish!

Have a fabulous weekend!

High Five for Friday

Photobucket
If it's Friday you know what that means right?!...
Linking up with Lauren for my top 5 favs from this week!

1.) Started my new job at the Department of Economic Security with the state.
I get to sit in a chair, work on a computer, use my brain, wear office attire, analyze things, wear a badge that opens doors when I swipe it, and bug the other interns with my 100 million questions all day long. ...and do it all and be off before it's dark.
So far, I'm diggin' it.

2.) So You Think You Can Dance season 9 premiere
I'm so excited...and I just can't hide it...I'm about to lose control and I think I like it...
Uh-huh!

3.) Got this bad boy in the mail this week...along with a text book for one of my summer classes
...can you guess which one I started reading first??
I can't figure out how to host a summer party like the totally awesome and professional ones in the magazines without melting in the summer AZ heat....hmmm...I may have to chew on that one a bit longer...

4.) Found these guys

Totally diggin' 'em
Also check out their song "Top of the World"...so fun and so addicting!

5.) THREE DAY WEEKEND!
And guess what?! I get to partake in it! AND so does husband! Which means we get to hang out for three whole days!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend...and don't forget what it's all about!
"...Our first obligation to them and ourselves is plain enough: The United States and the freedom for which it stands, the freedom for which they died, must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply. It has a cost; it imposes a burden. And just as they whom we commemorate were willing to sacrifice, so too must we—in a less final, less heroic way—be willing to give of ourselves."

High Five for Friday

Photobucket
Linking up with Lauren again today for my top five things from this week!

1.) This week concluded my career as a pharmacy tech.
Praise Jesus.
I won't elaborate much more because I'm sure you all are tired of hearing about it...if not check out my post here

2.) I paid off TWO credit cards
Praise Jesus.

3.) Mckenzie created her blog...it will be live in no time once we get it "pretty" (her words not mine, because I'm sure whatever Mckenzie does or creates is pretty)

4.) I actually cooked dinner one night AND did a workout video once this week
Once.
Baby steps here people, baby steps...

5.) I went shopping at Barnes and Noble my mom's book shelf.
It's true. Her bedroom contains her own personal Barnes and Noble. BUT since she's now a Nook convert guess who gets first dibs on all those books?!
That's right...this girl!!!
I walked away with a good 11 or so books to start on...and all for free!
...as well they should be, cause if my mom made me pay her to take her books off her hands we may have to have some words...
AND
I finally decided to stop being a Harry Potter snob and read the Hunger Games. I know, I'm giving in. Stephanie Chapman if you're reading this... please don't hate me...Ravenclaw's for life! =)

Happy Friday Everybody!!

High Five Friday

Photobucket
Linking up with Lauren today for my top 5 things from this week!

1.) In my search for the perfect summer song, that has now commenced since the weather has been over 100 degrees twice this week, I stumbled upon this gem in itunes the other night and I'm thinking it just might fit the bill

It's no Jake Owen, but I'm totally diggin' it

Here's my favorite summer song from last year:

I know, hard to beat right?!

2.) I was checking out one of the newer blogs I started following recently and was so surprised to find this awesome tid bit in one of her posts:
Seriously, MADE. MY. DAY.
Go check out Mosby's blog...and she just turned the big 21 so wish her a happy birthday!! =)

3.) My new Water Hyacinths for my water garden!
(Thanks mom!)
This is what they look like:
Can you spot them on the far left and right sides?!
...supposedly they're considered an "invasive" species...so I'm hoping they'll "invade" my water garden and get all big and pretty and pretty and stuff =)

4.) Got a call to set up an interview for a potential full time internship...cross your fingers for me!!!

5.) Tax refund has been deposited folks!!
Are we gonna use it and go on an awesome vacation?!
No.
Are we gonna buy some new awesome comfy furniture?!
No.
Is Rissa gonna take all the money and go on a shopping spree?!
I wish.
Are we gonna pay off a buncha debt and credit cards?!
TOTALLY.
I know, it's a terrible way to use an extra load of cash, and a terrible reminder that I'm a grown up now. But hey, you gotta do whatchya gotta do right?!
