Blogmas Day 13: Controversial Holiday Opinions

Alright folks, it's about to go down on day 13 of Blogmas. I need y'all to weigh in here.

  • Firstly, what is the correct type of tree?
  • The answer to this is a real tree. None of that artificial stuff that gets packed away in a box every year. The only stipulation where an artificial tree is acceptable is if it is not your main tree. That is, you have your main (real) tree in your living room, and then you perhaps have an artificial tree in a bedroom, or a sitting room. Thems the rules.
  • Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
  • Admittedly, I have no horse in this race but based on the arguments I've seen, I would err on the side of no, this is not a Christmas movie. However, my mind is open to be changed so hit me.
  • Is Egg Nog delicious?
  • The only answer to this question is no. I will die on this hill.
  • Colored lights or white lights?
  • White lights and white lights only on your Christmas tree. Colored lights are acceptable only on the outside of your house. Or also as a necklace.
  • Starbucks holiday cups - are they offensive?
  • No. Periodt.
  • Baby it's Cold Outside - is it creepy?
  • Also no and I am still salty this was even a thing.
  • When is the right time to open presents? Christmas Eve? Christmas morning? All December long?
  • I do not feel super passionately about this issue one way or another but here's how we roll: presents with parents/siblings Christmas Eve because that is our big shindig and we don't see each other Christmas Day. Presents with spouse Christmas morning.
  • What belongs at the top of the tree? A star? An angel? The Statue of Liberty?
  • The Statue of Liberty, obviously and the only substitute is a Bald Eagle. If that's not feasible I'd say a bow because that's what goes at the top of my (*cough* real *cough*) tree.
  • When should you take your Christmas decorations down?
  • I take mine down on New Years Day. Christmas goes for the whole month of December, so you really gotta milk it for all you can. New Years Day is a day off of work, the first day of a new year and new start, the perfect time to pack away Christmas and start fresh. Anything beyond New Years Day is a violation.
Let's discuss.
